Weighted Participation Rate

Our weighted participation category is intended to remedy the disadvantage faced by larger workplaces, for whom it is more difficult to obtain 100% participation rates. Professor Laura Taalman of the JMU math department suggested two techniques for calculating this prize's winner: (1) square each team's number of actual riders and divide by its number of potential participants; award prize to team whose resulting number is highest; (2) plot contestants on a graph in which x-axis is potential participants and y-axis is actual riders; award prize to team diverging most strongly above the average line. Both methods yielded the same clear winner.
