Longest Average Commute

We calculated the average commute based on the total number of potential participants, rather than the number of actual riders. (Had we used the latter method, the 2010 winner would have been Harman Construction, whose three riders commuted, respectively, 14, 14, and 15 miles. We salute Harman Construction as a powerful rising new force: if they can either increase their participation rate or define their pool of potential participants more narrowly, they will rival the Gandhi Center next year.) We chose to avoid the latter method because it would create a perverse incentive for teams to ask team members with short commutes NOT to bike, but instead drive to work, on Bike to Work Day.
